Houston's newest park wants your rubbish: Donate your trashy treasures toSmither Park
Mar 30, 2011 | 6:09 am
When CultureMap first broke the news of the construction of Smither Park beside the East End's Orange Show, an amphitheater, serpentine tunnel, 12-foot "coin roll" tower and hopscotch court, all enveloped in a recycled material mosaic, were outlined. Now, the public is invited to donate to the Dan Philips-designed whimsical green space by providing miscellanea to adorn the park structures.
Among the suggested items are:
- Pottery and china dishes
- Keys
- Marbles
- Tiles (colored or patterned)
- Buttons
- Sea shells
- Interesting metal objects (think drawer pulls and door knobs)
- Metal toys
- Dining utensils
- Perfume bottles
- Brass and copper items
- Stone
- Glass bottles in bright colors (under-21 friendly)
Steer clear of any items that might be tarnished by heat, cold, rot or rust. The park is requesting items immediately to jumpstart the year-and-a-half process. Drop off your salvage during Orange Show business hours, 12 - 5 p.m.
