Music, dance & spoken word from top arts groups highlight Pink at the Brown
It was a night celebrating the cultural riches of Houston while raising awareness of breast cancer when the Pink Ribbons Project held its annual "Pink at the Brown" performance evening in Wortham Center's Brown Theater.
While seven arts groups, including Houston Ballet, the Alley Theater and Da Camera of Houston, presented, the evening began with dinner for 155 big ticket buyers at the Houston Ballet Center for Dance.
At the helm were Jo Furr as event chair and Houston Ballet artistic director Stanton Welch as artistic chair. Linda Lorelle handled duties as emcee for the dinner program that introduced the evening's non-performing stars — physician honoree Frankie Ann Holmes, arts advocate honoree Margaret Alkek Williams, survivor honoree Dr. Margo Hilliard and corporate honoree Softlayer Technologies.
Applauding Susan Rafte, Pink Ribbons survivor founder, and Jane Weiner, Pink Ribbons Project founder and artistic director, were guests including Jim Furr, Carolyn Farb and Charles Ward, Sue and Lester Smith, Gina and Dr. Devinder Bhatia, Laurette and Willliam Foster, Erin and Chris Steiming, Joanne King Herring and Linda McCaul, wife of U.S. Rep. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
