Tequila Launch
Spirits are high at swanky soiree where smooth tequila import is a hit
Estela and David Cockrell, along with 40 VIP guests, toasted Casa Dragones Blanco tequila Wednesday night at their Tanglewood home. The couple hosted an exclusive soiree celebrating the local launch of the high-end sipping tequila, which hit Houston shelves in May.
The clean, crisp taste of Casa Dragones Blanco was a quick hit with the trendsetting crowd. While two tequila-based craft cocktails were served, including the Spanish Harlem (made with Italian liqueur, cherry liqueur and chocolate bitters) and the El Burro (mixed with apple-ginger beer, Angostura bitters and Peychaud's bitters), several enthusiasts opted to drink it neat and on the rocks.
Handcrafted in Mexico and already a name south of the border, Casa Dragones hopes to work its tequila magic on the Houston market. Smooth with underlying notes of vanilla, pear and spice, the platinum-colored tequila made of 100 percent blue agave joven paired easily with hors d'oeuvres from Jackson and Company. Waiters in crisp white jackets served portobello carpaccio, smoked chicken and pork tenderloin croustade.
Yann Audebert, chief commercial and strategy officer of Casa Dragones, was on-hand to answer questions and give background information on the company, founded in 2008 by MTV creator and Clear Channel CEO Robert W. Pittman and tequila industry expert Bertha González Nieves.
Guests in good spirits included: Elizabeth Petersen, John Kuhl, Joanna Barrett, Elizabeth Dorey, Johnny Rinando, Lutfi Rukub, Jason Cook, Marian Baxter and Luba and Alan Bigman.
