15 food and drink specials saluting Houston's heroes on Veterans Day

Veterans Day provides Americans with an opportunity to thank those who have served in America’s Armed Forces. Restaurants across Houston are doing their part by extending a number of discounts.

Unless noted below, all offers are available on Monday, November 11. Both veterans and active-duty service members should be prepared to show proof of their status.

Azumi, a Japanese restaurant in River Oaks District, is giving veterans a 50-percent discount on their meals. A lunch bento box comes with miso soup, wakame salad, fried rice, two pieces of nigiri, and a four piece maki roll. Sister concepts Loch Bar and Marmo are also offering a 50-percent discount. Parties of eight or fewer only. Dine-in only.

Feges BBQ co-owner Patrick Feges is an Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Every year, the restaurant offers all veterans a free two-meat barbecue plate with two sides and a drink. It’s available on Sunday, November 10 at the restaurant’s location in Spring Branch and on Veterans Day at the Greenway Plaza location.

Kolache Factory is offering one free kolache and a free cup of coffee (excludes croissants, Polish varieties, and espresso drinks).

Kolache Shoppe will give all veterans and active service members one complimentary kolache of their choice. Greenway Plaza location only.

Molina’s Cantina is extending a 50-percent discount to veterans. Dine-in only. Excludes alcohol.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille is giving veterans a free pork chop dinner with purchase of a regular price entree by another diner. If a group of veterans are dining together, they’ll all receive 50-percent off their pork chop dinners. Available 4 pm until close.

Phat Eatery is extending a 30-percent discount to veterans and active duty military on both dine-in and to-go orders (excludes alcohol and online orders).

Pluckers Wing Bar is giving a free meal to veterans and active-duty military personnel.

The newly reopened River Oaks Theatre will give veterans and active-duty military a free movie ticket and popcorn for any screening on Veterans Day.

The Savoy, a neighborhood bar in Third War will provide a free lunch to veterans and active military. Choices include chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, Savoy burger, and chicken wings with fries.

All three locations of State Fare Kitchen & Bar are offering veterans a free meal. Choices include a burger, birria grilled cheese, smoked chicken cobb, chicken fried ribeye, and more. Dine-in only. Beverage and gratuity not included.

Tavola, an Italian restaurant on Post Oak, is offering veterans a 50-percent discount on their Veterans Day meals.

The Tailgate is CultureMap’s sports-themed taking place at 8th Wonder. Veterans can use this link for discounted tickets. Everyone will receive $25 off with code HOU25.

Taste Kitchen + Bar will serve a free breakfast to veterans and active military personnel from 8-11 am.

Twin Peaks will serve a free lunch to veterans and active duty military. Choices include a cheeseburger and fries, smoked chicken tacos, chicken tenders, and chicken or shrimp Caesar salad. Lunch is served from 11 am - 3 pm.

Zanti Cucina Italiana in River Oaks is serving veterans a complimentary, three-course meal from a prix fixe menu of favorites such as truffle cheese ravioli, flank steak, and panna cotta.

Houstonians love a deal, especially when it involves a juicy steak. Thankfully, Houston's bars and restaurants devote lots of to creating compelling steak night specials. These are a few that caught our attention, mostly new additions with a few familiar favorites thrown in as a reminder of their consistent excellence.

Monday

EZ's Liquor Lounge
This award-winning, retro-inspired cocktail bar in the Heights serves a 12-ounce strip with a salad and mashed potatoes for $32 every Monday beginning at 6 pm.

Memorial Trail Ice House
After reopening in June, Memorial Trail Ice House added a steak night on Mondays. Dig into a ribeye steak with bacon-smashed mozzarella potatoes and salad for $21. Take advantage of industry night, too, with $5 Espolon, $5 Jäger, $5 Maniball Peanut Butter Tequila, and $8 Good Boy seltzers.

Tuesday

Griff’s
The steak night at this beloved Irish pub has a loyal following. The $24 plate comes with a marinated steak, giant baked potato, a visit to the full potato-fixings bar, and a draft beer.

Toga
This Japanese-inspired pub offers a $29 steak night deal on Tuesdays from 4-10 pm. Diners get an eight-ounce steak with housemade chimichurri sauce, plus sweet potato mash with chili garlic and a house salad topped of frisée, cabbage, and tomato that's topped with creamy ginger dressing and sesame seeds.

Turner’s
For an elevated take on steak night, Turner’s "Prime Affairs" night showcases three cuts on Tuesdays: an eight-ounce American wagyu filet mignon ($88), an 18-ounce prime dry-aged bone-in New York strip ($76), and a 22-ounce prime dry-aged bone-in ribeye ($123). Each comes with a choice of True Madeira, smoked chimichurri, or au poivre, along with potato purée and grilled asparagus. For the whole table, the “After Dark” board serves three to four guests and includes all three steaks for $275.

Wednesday

The Blind Goat
The Spring Branch eatery from MasterChef winner Christine Ha serves a steak frites special on Wednesdays for $27.

Confessions
It’s all-you-can-eat ribeye and fries for $45 on Wednesdays at this hookah bar and restaurant. Diners can also get $5 glasses of wine and $20 bottles.

KP’s Kitchen
Wednesdays bring all-day happy hour and prime rib night to the Spring Branch restaurant. Diners can pair the steak with their first glass of red wine for $1, or take advantage of $7 drinks and $7 appetizers during happy hour.

Yuma
Known for its Brazilian and Cuban sandwiches, Yuma gets in on the steak night trend on Wednesdays. A slab of picanha, also known as top sirloin cap, is coated in a housemade dry rub, smoked slowly, and sliced like prime rib. It’s served with yuca fries, sautéed mustard greens, and chimichurri.

Thursday

Johnny Ritas
It’s “Noche Asado” at Johnny Rita's on Thursdays from 5-9 pm. The $27 plate comes with a 12-ounce carne asada served with salad and elote. Diners can also take advantage of $2 off frozen margaritas and signature cocktails.

Jonathan’s The Rub
Stop by either the Campbell Place ($35) or East End ($30) locations of Jonathan’s The Rub on Thursdays for a 16-ounce New York strip paired with a vegetable and smashed potatoes.

Starduster Lounge
The casual Heights spot's steak night comes with a steak, butter poached potatoes, and rotating veg with cowboy butter for $30. Add a margarita for $5.
