Missouri City’s low crime rate and high median income landed the Houston suburb in 24/7 Wall St.’s list of “America’s 50 Best Cities to Live.” The online financial publication also cited the city’s diversity and cost of living as other factors for the ranking.
24/7 Wall St. surveyed 550 cities with populations of 65,000 or more and designated Missouri City No. 16 on the list.
A city’s labor market heavily influenced the rankings and 24/7 Wall St. editors surveyed areas with positive employment growth between 2011 and 2013. The better the growth, the higher the ranking. Available amenities like restaurants, theaters and fitness clubs were also important markers.
24/7 Wall St. surveyed 550 cities with populations of 65,000 or more as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau and found Missouri City’s median household income of $84, 511 and 5.9 percent unemployment rate compelling, designating it as No. 16 on the list.
Missouri City is located southwest of Houston and includes the master-planned communities of Sienna Plantation and Riverstone, among others and 24/7 Wall St. calls it “vibrant” and “clearly exemplifying the trends that are rapidly refashioning the social and political landscape across all of urban America.”
The Dallas area suburbs of Flower Mound and Richardson also landed in the lists Top 50 ranking at nine and 17 respectively.
Although much smaller than other cities on the list, Flower Mound is home to some the country’s wealthiest residents. The median household income is $113,683 and demand for homes is rising fast.
Richardson’s median household income of $71,082 and easy access via public transportation impressed the publication’s editors, as did the well-respected school system and entertainment amenities.
