The country style mansion of the former Houston Astros pitcher Shane Reynolds is on the market for the small price of $4.95 million. Which is actually something of a discount.
This Sugar Land mansion originally went on the market last summer with an asking price of $8.5 million. The Reynolds family wasn’t really committed to selling the house until now though, real estate agent Cindy Burns tells CultureMap. Now that the Reynolds' kids are grown, Shane and his wife Pam are set to move on.
Reynolds had a long history in Texas, but he and Pam are starting a new life out of state. After pitching for the University of Texas, Reynolds was picked by the Astros in the third round of the 1989 draft. And he played 11 of his 13 Major League seasons for the Astros, posting a 103-86 record in Houston and making the 2000 National League All-Star Team.
One special feature is the marble bathtub from a Paris flea market, which had to be put into the house with a crane because it was so heavy.
His dream Texas home turned out to be a 8,543 square foot house in Sugar Land — complete with its own baseball field. Yes, the grounds include a baseball field. The manse is located in Maranatha Farms, which Burns describes as a “hidden pocket.”
Besides the baseball field, there is a barn with three stalls on an estate that stretches over six-plus acres.
The house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms along with a home theater, gourmet kitchen and four-car garage. Pam Reynolds incorporated many antiques into the house, according to Burns. One special feature is the marble bathtub from a Paris flea market, which had to be put into the house with a crane because it was so heavy.
“The house was built for entertaining adults, kids and everything in between,” Burns says. “It is a little bit of heaven.”
