Where: A swank private hangar at Hobby International Airport.
The scoop: A record of more than 650 black-tie attired guests poured into the ultimate private jet hangar where six aviators from across the country were inducted into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame by John Nau, chairman of the Texas Historical Commission and CEO of Silver Eagle Distributors. They were the late Lt. Col. David Dewhurst, the Connie Edwards family, the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Gene Kranz, the late Howard Pardue, and Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger.
With opening of the new $35 million Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Field slated for 2017, excitement ran high as guests socialized between the collection of vintage aircraft on display and sat down for dinner by A Fare Extraordinaire. (Guests were crazy for the French almond pear tart designed like a propeller.)
Museum board chair Scott Rozzell co-chaired the gala along with his wife, Karen, and Linda and Barry Hunsaker. LSFM board member Anthony Hall introduced the evening's honoree, museum founder and chairman emeritus Robert L. Waltrip, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
