Inner sex kittens, playboys and "whore couture" make Hope Stone's sexy pajama party rock

It's seldom that chenille vies with silk for the most coveted look at a charity gala. But that was before Hope Stone introduced its zany "Le Breakfast for Dinner" fundraiser concept for which nightwear is the preferred look.

Warehouse Live was setting for the pajama party that saw everything from baby doll outfits to flannel PJs to gals in little more than trench coats and stilettos. While a playful fashion diversion for some, this party meant serious shopping for others.

Vanity Lounge guru Edward Sanchez, who admits that he typically sleeps in the nude, had to go out and buy pajamas for the party. "I have really nice sheets," he explained with a slight blush.

"It's whore couture," she explained, adding that this was a purchase from her "cougar" days.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Franklin Rose made his nighttime fashion statement in silk robe by Tom Ford, ascot by Ferragamo and Ralph Lauren suede slippers. It was, he said, a shopping day at The Galleria. His wife, Cindi Rose, wore a lavish silk nightie topped with a short, revealing silk robe. "It's whore couture," she explained adding that this was a purchase from her "cougar" days, some years back during the interim when she and Franklin were divorced.

Particularly interesting was the variety of footwear that ranged from Debbie Festari's kitten slippers trimmed in marabou to Debra Grierson's poodle slippers.

Opting for a more demure look Le Breakfast chair Beth Muecke welcomed the 175 guests who arrived in all manner of PJs including honoree Nancy Wozny, CultureMap contributor, who received the Hope Angel Award.

Also taking bows for the evening were Hope Stone founder Jane Weiner, dinner chair Anna B. McCullough, auction chair Emma Moon and decorations chairs Sally Russ and Denise Skorka.

Guests dined on a bountiful breakfast of steak and eggs, cheese grits and cheese souffle from Swift + Co. and grooved to the sounds of DJ Anne Tyler, the former Houston Ballet corps member now living in Los Angeles.

Among those who raided Victoria's Secret, exotic web sites and Dillard's for their party clothes were Diane and Michael Caplan, Cindy Thorp, Pierce Bush, Stacy and John Andell, Mark Wozny, Kellie and Rich Jinks, Jerri Moore and Maria Bassa. Add Gina Gaston Elie to the mix, though she was in a cocktail dress, one she topped with a blazer for her 10 p.m. newscast on KTRK Channel 13.

The classic environment of the River Oaks Country Club radiated with purpose as The Salvation Army of Greater Houston hosted its 30th Annual Luncheon on November 19. The afternoon was a moving tribute to the organization’s work, highlighted by stories of gratitude. More than just a fundraiser, the event marked the start of the iconic Red Kettle season across retailers all over the city and virtually as well.

Honorees Holly and Tom Forney were lauded for their dedication, including their leadership in overseeing the new area command on North Main. They shared a moving reflection on navigating life’s challenges with purpose and compassion, reflecting the values of The Salvation Army.

Keynote speaker Spencer Tillman, a former NFL player for the Houston Oilers and San Francisco 49ers, brought the crowd to its feet with an account of his connection to the nonprofit. Sharing how the Boys and Girls Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, gave him structure and a path forward during his formative years, Tillman credited the program with helping him stay in bounds during life’s challenges. His message, emphasizing grit, mentorship, and dreaming big, scored a touchdown with the audience.

In the past year, the organization provided more than 225,000 meals to those experiencing hunger, along with more than 43,000 nights of shelter for individuals and families in crisis. The initiatives offered after school programming to 2,242 children, helped 1,178 people find permanent housing, and guided 600 men through recovery programs to overcome substance abuse. All these numbers are worthy of a touchdown dance, agree?

The midday event, chaired by Bill Schneidau, celebrated these milestones while raising funds for programs that uplift the city’s most vulnerable. With underwriting support from Joe Cleary, who covered the entire affair, the luncheon raised more than $740,000.

Among the 320 guests were emcee Deborah Duncan of Great Day Houston, Cathy Cleary, Emily Clay, Carolynn and Rob Webb, Dr. Walter and Linda McReynolds, Hannah McNair, Vicki West and Ralph Burch, Maureen Higdon, Diana and Chris DeLaup, Judy Tate, Jenny Elkins, Rose Cullen, Joyce Standish, Lilly Andress, and Thurmon Andress.
