Prabal Gurung gets a leg up on the competition with a collection that's covered up and revealing
In recent weeks, Prabal Gurung has dressed Kerry Washington for a Disneyland celebration in Los Angeles, Selena Gomez for a Hollywood appearance and model Lily Aldridge for a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue party in Miami.
A favorite of Hollywood starlets, Gurung offers a lot for his admirers to like in his fall collection, unveiled at Skylight at Moynihan Station during New York Fashion Week. Inspired by Lord Byron's "She Walks in Beauty" and Henri Rosseau's painting "Woman Walking in an Exotic Forest," it features dreamy looks that manage to be covered up and revealing at the same time.
Just about all of the dresses and some of the tailored trousers have covered buttons that can easily be unbuttoned to show a hint — or a lot — of skin. Ethereal wrap dresses in a floating feather chiffon print, lace feathers or Astrakhan-embossed velveteen are slashed to reveal a lot of leg. High-neck blouses are made of see-through chiffon and shoulders are exposed in glittery gowns and draped dresses.
Also pretty nifty are oversized wool tunics that look real comfy and cozy when the weather gets cold. And there are distinctive coats galore — from the stylishly practical (a snow white toggle coat) to the stylishly outrageous (a lavender Astrakhan textured velveteen coat with flounced sleeves and a Saga mink and fox fur imprinted with a large feather pattern).
It all adds up to a look of easy elegance — something any starlet, or even an everyday person, aspires to achieve.
