Casual Elegance
Billy Reid emphasizes casual elegance for men and women in new fall collection
What:Billy Reid fall/winter 2016 men's and women's runway show.
Where:New York Men's Fashion Week.
The look: Reid, a Texas favorite with stores in Houston, Dallas and Austin, specializes in uncomplicated casual styles using rich textured fabrics. For fall, he is showing baggy pants, fitted double breasted blazers and terrific outerwear — hooded quilted jackets, nylon rain capes and luxurious coats for men in muted colors of beige, cream, gray, brown and rust (our favorite is a reversible cashmere taped coat.)
Reid is mainly known as a menswear designer, but womenswear now accounts for about 30 percent of his business. So he sprinkled in a number of looks for women, including a champagne shearling jacket, pressed leather skirt in a floral pattern and a cashmere twill cardigan that ties at the waist — all with the same casual elegance he is known for.
Cool shoes: Once again Reid partnered with K-Swiss to create distinctive footwear, including brown and tan suede leather low-tops that accented several looks.
Live performance:Iron & Wine performed his singles "House by the Sea" and "Wolves" from his album The Shepard's Dog.
Celebs: Hobbnobbing backstage with Reid afterwards were Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita, and Denis O'Hare.
