From its striking historic homes with echoes of a bygone era to its long stretches of curing beaches hugging the Gulf Coast, Galveston has long been the seaside refuge for its more urban neighbors. Once the busiest port in the south, today the island is known for its laid-back charm, Texas hospitality, and one-of-a-kind restaurants, shops, and entertainment.
All of those should feature prominently when the city makes its debut on the A&E Network’s popular series Vacation Rental Potential. The show follows homebuyers looking for their perfect weekend or seasonal getaway, with help from home renovation expert Holly Baker.
The real estate investor, flipper, and designer has carved a particular niche in short-term vacation rentals, and Vacation Rental Potential tells the story each week of a different family looking for a spot that not only meets their needs but also will enhance their lifestyle.
The Galveston episode introduces viewers to the Pooles, a tight-knit Houston family that loves coming together as a multi-generational group. The show finds Martha, the Poole matriarch, looking for a getaway home that will allow enough space for her brood of five children and 13 grandchildren to enjoy together. Baker helps them in the hunt, also showing them how to pool their resources and maximize rental potential to pay for a Galveston home that fits their needs.
Viewers will likely enjoy the tips offered in the show, but will delight in seeing familiar places take the national spotlight. The home the Pooles find, a four-bedroom, four-bath number on Pirate’s Beach, is a multi-level beachfront oasis, with sweeping views of sea and sand.
A sprawling rooftop deck is the perfect entertaining spot, with a gorgeous beach background. Light floods the home, which makes maximum use of its location, listed as “45 steps” from the beach. Cozy corner seating areas against massive windows offer a panorama of grass, sand and palm trees.
There are loft spaces, bedrooms with private decks, even a game room with a billiard table. Completely modern, with nods to Galveston’s seafaring history, the home is a beautiful escape.
Best of all for viewers who happen to fall in love with the island retreat? It’s available for rent.
The Galveston episode of Vacation Rental Potential airs on the FYI Network on Thursday, March 21 at 9 pm and again the A&E Network on Saturday, March 23 at 9 am.
