Local Foods
|
Local Foods is owned by Benjy Levit and chef Dylan Murray, and in some ways is a casual extension of the Benjy's next door. Designer Aaron Rambo has wiped out all the clutter of Antone's and brings out a modern look finished with some retro touches like exposed brick, white subway tile and an aluminum trough full of real Coke and Dublin Dr. Pepper. There are shelves of products (that are, you guessed it, local), including Texas Hill Country olive oil, Worcestershire sauce from Grateful Bread, local honey and Benjy's branded items like beer nuts and granola. But the main focus is the prepared menu of sandwiches, salads and healthy sides. But this is no Subway, with sandwich offerings like a house-smoked salmon with local greens and red onion jam on a poppy seed bagel, a duck confit panini with melted brie, arugula and cranberry preserves and a Gulf shrimp and blue crab sandwich on ciabatta. Want to indulge? Don't miss the house-made soft-serve ice cream.
The hardest choice is between the local 8th Wonder root beer on tap and Benjy's amazing mintade.
