Alley Theatre

If the local theater scene were mythologized, the Alley Theatre would be perched on Mount Olympus. This institution got its name from starting out in a small space that was literally on an alley and rose to be one of the most prestigious nonprofit resident theaters in the U.S. The Alley is one of the few theaters in the country that supports an entire cast of actors, crew and production people throughout the year and it has forged alliances with greats such as Edward Albee, Vanessa Redgrave and Frank Wildhorn. World premieres have included Jekyll & Hyde, The Civil War, and Not About Nightingales, a recently discovered play by Tennessee Williams. Between the larger, more traditional Hubbard Stage and the so-close-it's-practically-interactive Neuhaus Stage, the theater presents 11 productions a year of all genres from screwball comedy to Shakespeare. You can go casual chic for the matinees or dress it up a little for the evening performances. And when the curtain falls on the final act, you’re within walking distance of several top restaurants and clubs.
