Former Houston sports superstars J.J. Watt and Kealia Ohai Watt welcome baby boy
A beloved former Houston Texan and his wife, also a former local pro sports star, are celebrating life-changing news.
J.J. Watt (currently with the Arizona Cardinals) and wife Kealia Watt, the former Houston Dash midfielder standout who's currently on the Chicago Red Stars squad, welcomed their baby boy Koa James on Tuesday, October 25. The happy couple announced the arrival on social media late that day with a message that every parent understands:
"Love and happiness have reached heights we never even knew existed. Koa James Watt 10.23.22."

The Watts — who're forever H-Towners in the minds of many here — had announced their baby on social media in June, saying, "Could not be more excited," and pics of a beaming Kealia and her baby bump. The couple met in 2016 in Houston, when J.J. was dominating the NFL as a Texan and Kealia lead the Dash.
J.J. was introduced to Kealia by his former defensive teammate, linebacker Brian Cushing, a fierce presence who played alongside J.J. for seven seasons. Cushing (known here as "Cush") is married to Kealia's sister, Megan. J.J. proposed to Kealia in May 2019 and married in February 2020 in the Bahamas.
Not long after J.J. met Kealia, Hurricane Harvey ravaged Houston. True to his real-life-Captain-America form, J.J. rallied fans to donate to relief efforts, eventually raising a massive $41 million to rebuild some 1,100 homes across Houston.
With the Texans enduring major — and for fans, infuriating — changes under now-departed coach/GM Bill O'Brien, J.J. announced he was leaving the team that drafted him in a heart-wrenching video on February 12, 2021. “You guys have given me everything and more and I can only hope you feel like I’ve given you everything I have,” he said.
In early October this year, the man who has proven his heart in droves terrified his wife and fans everywhere when he suffered an atrial fibrillation. His irregular heart rhythm was quickly shocked back into place by doctors and Watt soon returned to the field.
Boasting dominating NFL presences one side — J.J., a future Hall-of-Famer, T.J., a standout Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, and Derek, who plays fullback on the Steelers alongside T.J. — and mad soccer skills thanks to mom Kealia, baby Koa James will no doubt have scouts' eyes on him the moment he can walk.
Here's hoping, if Koa chooses football, he'll one day terrorize opponents — while sporting a Texans uniform, of course.
