Instrument petting zoo makes for a magical day in swanky River Oaks club — and the kids agree

The 411: More than 400 guests, most of them festively-dressed youngsters, joined the Houston Symphony League and the Houston Symphony Society for the annual holiday fete that gently introduces the world of classical music to children.
The instrument petting zoo is the highlight of the fundraiser that lets the kiddos get up close and personal with violins and the like, a nice touch considering that symphony violinistRodica Gonzalez and her 7-year-old son, Matthew, performed. The youngsters sang along to the holiday tunes of DJ London at the karaoke station and indulged in face-painting, arts and crafts and photos with jolly old St. Nick, the latter the most popular of the entertainments.
Kim Lucas and Lilly Andress chaired the event that raised $70,000 for symphony coffers. Sybil Roos was tapped as honorary grandmother for the event that extended the joy of the season by inviting 16 children from the Salvation Army Family Residence to join the holiday fun.
