Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen captivate young Houston Ballet fans at dreamy tea party
Houston Ballet has a winner on its hands with the first annual "Kingdom of Sweets Tea Party," which launched at the Four Seasons Hotel in a flurry of characters from The Nutcracker.
What is sure to become a holiday tradition, the brunch fete was hosted by the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Nutcracker and the Snow Queen much to the delight of all 200 parents and children, who ranged in age from toddlers to 12. Nick and Beth Zdeblick with their youngsters, William and Kate, chaired the event that raised $50,000 for Houston Ballet.
Houston Ballet principle Karina Gonzalez charmed both young and old as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Snow Queen Mackenzie Richter read from story books. Rounding out the cast of fully-costumed characters were the prince represented by Jack Thomas, James Kirby Rogers as the Nutcracker and Chandler Dalton Hulsey portraying a toy soldier.
Party diversions included face painting, food and drink, photo opps, mingling with the ballet characters and a silent auction.
Joining the festive gathering were Divya and Chris Brown, Pamela Ferguson, Gina Bhatia, Sara and Jordan High, Janae Tsai, Mary and Ben Patton and Kelly Lubanko.
