Legal eagles swarm at River Oaks Country Club and raise $561,000 for Houston BarFoundation
With more than 1,100 lawyers pouring into River Oaks Country Club on a single night, it would simply have to be one of the more interesting gatherings on the calendar. And so it was for the 62nd Harvest Party that raised a record $561,000 for pro bono legal services in Harris County.
Lawyers and their significant others filled the main-level ballroom and the dining room for a cocktail buffet and spilled over onto the ground level for a bountiful Mexican buffet. The entire club was reserved for the legal eagles on this evening.
The event is sponsored by the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Bar Foundation and the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary. Since the social confab morphed into a fundraiser 12 years ago, more than $4 million has been raised for foundation work.
Welcoming the throng were HBA president Denise Scofield and husband John Scofield, foundation chair Bill Lowrey and wife Becky Lowrey, and HBA Auxiliary chair Andi Durham and husband Mike Durham.
