Dr. Sanjay Gupta captivates crowd at St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities' 15thanniversary gala
The audience of 800 in the Hilton Americas-Houston ballroom appeared captivated by CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta as he reminisced about his experiences on the front lines in disaster zones ranging from the devastating tsunami in Sri Lanka to Haiti's disastrous earthquake. His topic — Media and Medicine Around the World.
The neurosurgeon was keynote speaker at the St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities 15th anniversary "Crystal Celebration," which raised more than $800,000 for the non-profit's community work.
Applause, applause for dinner chair Flo McGee and her honorary committee comprised of Dr. Michelle Lyn, Judy Tate, John Cater and Lorne Bain.
Dr. Aljaz Ali Khowaja, founding CEO of the Ibn Sina Foundation, was honored with the 2012 Community Health Leadership Award, recognized for his non-profit clinics that provides affordable medical and dental services to the city's need.
