1,000 guests and $1.7 million in the bank — it was a windfall night for Boys andGirls Country
The 40th anniversary celebration of Boys and Girls Country soared to remarkable heights with a crowd of 1,000 filling the ballroom of the Hilton Americas-Houston and proceeds edging into the stratosphere of $1.7 million. That huge success is attributed in large part to the charity's mission of providing a safe home for youngsters, a number of whom repeated "Thank you for my home" in the moving video that left not a dry eye in the room.
Credit also goes to Sofia Adrogué and Sten Gustafson, chairs of the black-tie gala, who helped sell 113 tables, several of which were turned back in, therefore, not upsetting fire code regulations.
The benefit honored Jean Robinson, who co-founded with her husband, the late Tom Robinson, the Christian faith-based home for children who have been abandoned or are homeless.
While much of the program was heartfelt and tear-provoking, there were tears of another sort on this evening thanks to the Texas humor of comedian Bill Engvall, who had the crowd cracking up with laughter.
Among supporters moved by the evening's presentation were Peggy and Pete Miller, Rita and Chuck Scianna, Margaret Williams and Jim Daniel, Donna and Tony Vallone, Kristy and Chris Bradshaw, Hilary and Tom Probert, Ericka Bagwell and Kylie and James Casey.
