Pooch in a tutu and high-speed pet portraits excite Friends for Life gala with record crowd

The 411: Cassie, the tutu-clad Friends for Life alumni dog, welcomed a record number of guests who helped raise close to $500,000 for the no-kill adoption and rescue organization. Applause, applause for chairs Christine and Michael McWilliams and Terri and Roger Peak and underwriting chair and uber animal lover Don Sanders.
Adding to the coffers was high-speed artist Dan Dunn painting pet portraits on site and donating 60 percent of the fee to the non-profit.
Even chef David Corduagot into the animal-loving act by preparing a three-course vegan meal which included kale and cabbage crush slaw salad, sweet corn tamales and spiced pecan empanadas.
