European royalty enjoy a magic carpet ride at cocktail party with touch of Texas and India
Call it a housewarming party with a touch of Texas and a taste of India. That would best describe the lively cocktail party celebrating the West University relocation of Abrahams Oriental Rugs that doubled as a fundraiser for Houston Grand Opera.
After 38 years in the Decorative Center Houston, proprietors Sam and Omana Abraham have moved their wholesale trade showroom to an affluent artery of the city at Bartlett and Kirby. Longtime supporters of a variety of worthy causes, the Abrahams have regularly supported the Houston Grand Opera Ball by donating a rug for auction. For the grand opening, they raffled one of their prize carpets.
A jazz group performed while the 350 guests — designers, clients and friends — explored the new showroom and sampled a mix of Goode Company barbecue and Indian fare.
Applauding the new space were Indian Consul General to Houston Parvathaneni Harish, Austrian Archduchess Maria-Anna Galitzine and Russian Prince Piotr Galitzine, Joanne King Herring, Richard Yates, Elizabeth Abraham, Kristy Bradshaw, Valerie and Tracy Dieterich, Blanca and Roland Laurenzo, Annie and Abe Thomas and Rachel and Raj Duvurri.
