A very pregnant local TV news star leads a Labor Day fashion show that draws a big crowd
With KTRK Channel 13 news reporter Miya Shay about to deliver a son in a few short weeks, who better to serve as emcee of the 10th annual Woman's Hospital of Texas Labor Day Luncheon and Fashion Show? Particularly with Miya and hubby State Rep. Gene Wu planning on welcoming the stork at Woman's Hospital.
For the pre-Labor Day event, the ballroom of the Omni Houston Hotel was packed with close to 600 supporters raising serious greenbacks for the beneficiary — the March of Dimes. As it turned out, emerald green was de rigueur not only for the dollars raised but also for the "Wizard of Oz" luncheon theme and as the must-have fashion color for fall.
Fall trends on the wild side swept the runway where Todd Ramos orchestrated a show emphasizing leathers, animal prints and faux fur while Holly Thompson shared timeless wardrobe tips.
Standing at the helm of the day's activities were luncheon chairs Linda Russell, Woman's Hospital CEO, and Michelle L. Smith.
Spotted perusing the two dozen local boutiques such as BB1 Classic and French Cuff, which presented pop-up shops, were guests including Deborah Conner, Hannah Gelbs, Alicia Smith, Amy Lee, Ursaline Hamilton, Courtney Shields, Kristal Howard and Laurette Veres.
