Who needs Beyoncé with Pussy Riot and David Beckham taking over a wild House ofDeréon?
The fact that the OPI nail color Onyx (read that very black) was the choice of more than a few men preening at Planned Parenthood's "Party Like a Rock Star" bash Saturday was clear indication of just how far on the wild side this annual fundraiser has gone.
Ozzy Osbourne, aka Jeff Brownawell, and Basement Jaxx, aka Guy Lindsley, were just two among the peacocks coating their nails in the Goth color for a star turn at House of Deréon Media Center. Even without the presence of House of Deréon founders — Beyoncé and mom Tina Knowles — the party pulsated with whacked-out celeb vibes.
Consider the deliciously random hermaphrodite "Stevie Wonder Woman," aka Sam Cole.
Benefit chairs Lauren and Michael Reeder channeled Victoria and David Beckham while the more than 300 revelers in a costume frenzy rocked the two-story event space.
Among party guests strutting their alter egos: Madelyn Felix as David Bowie, Phi Tran as Björk, James Glassman as a peace-loving John Lennon, Sarah Loparco as Shirley Manson, Max Cardenas as Shuffle Bot, Jeanette Cardenas as Olympic medal-winning boxer Marlen Esparza and Andrea Greer and Allen Hill as members of the Russian feminist punk-rock group Pussy Riot.
This was the fifth year that Planned Parenthood's young professional group had raised the party flag at House of Deréon, a cool spot for hot mixing. With the riveting spins of DJ Branko as inspiration, the dance floor was packed most of the night. The second floor balcony provided the perfect perch for character-watching directly above the juking crowd. A plus for major donors — the second-floor VIP hipster lounge area with swank contempo furnishings.
The scenesters included Michelle Lindsley as Joan Jett, Melissa Paschal as Gwen Stefani, Lisa Benitez, Ed Benyon, Patricia Sturion, Paula Mott, Sarah and Paul Beebe, Rebecca Briscoe, Lindsey George and Jim Peterson.
