Moustached ladies and berets ruled Bastille Day fete at "new" Cafe Moustache
Say "fromage" and smile. There was a lot of that — smiling — going on at Café Moustache during the re-invented Montrose eatery's Bastille Day celebration.
Mustaches abounded on everything and everyone from the ladies (fake facial hair, of course) to the glasses of Kir Royale to waiter's aprons. Berets were plentiful as well. All in good fun as the former SoVino re-launched itself as a neighborhood French bistro.
It was SRO as guests packed every square inch, taking advantage of the French celebration and the agreeably priced prix-fixe menu of $30 for three courses. Officially, it was the grand opening of Café Moustache with partners Manfred Jachmich and Elizabeth Abraham welcoming the throng that surpassed 150 before night's end.
Pomme frites and French fromages were faves with the bar crowd that watched (sort of) the Tour de France on bar TVs. The chef showed his French culinary prowess serving specialties such as mussels and escargot.
Setting the ooo-la-la mood was music from Edith Piaf, Carla Bruni, Coeur de Pirate and MC Solaar, the francophone hip hop and rap artist.
Among those celebrating la fete nationale at Café Moustache were Ilyas Colombowala, Kelli Kickerillo, Emma Colbert, Heather Pray, Valerie Palmquist and Tracy Dieterich, Sharron Melton, James Sivco, Miya Shay, Brian Thorp, Lauren Pray, Chris McCauley, David Lake, Melissa Fitzgerald, Liz Cleveland and so many more.
It was Vive la France! all night long.
