Beefy tight end dinner, fall cruise plans & Thursday late nights at Armandoscrush summer boredom
We love it when the big guys on the playing field take time out from training to give back to the community and that's just what Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels is doing this summer — planning a benefit Celebrity Server Night at Morton's, The Steakhouse-Galleria. Mark you calendars for Aug. 30.
In preparation for the big feed night, Daniels corralled members of the board of his Owen Daniels' Catch a Dream Foundation to chew the beef on the subject at Morton's. Huddling over party plans were Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau; Jeff Retter, managing director of Northwestern Mutual; and David Solomon, chairman and CEO of Condera Advisors.
To date, Daniels has lined up quarterback Matt Schaub, tackle Eric Winston and running back Steve Slaton to check their shoulder pads at the door and don aprons as waiters at Morton's-Galleria. Tickets for the celebrity server dinner are $250 and you can reserve your place at 713-629-1946.
Dance the night away
Party animals can crank up the late-night action at Armandos starting this Thursday when Neal Hamil and Kalon McMahon begin hosting "Late Night Thursdays at Armandos." From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., the restaurant scene morphs into disco central when a dance floor is moved in and a DJ takes over the sound system. "It should make summer in the city a little less droll," Hamil says.
This past Thursday night, Hamil hosted Gregory Fourticq and Sara Dodd to margaritas and Mexican fare while later head-huddling with Armandos owner Armando Palacios.
Anchors away
Author, PBS personality and interior designer Bill Stubbs, a hometown favorite, is lining up Houstonians for an East Coast cruise in October in support of HoustonPBS. Host of the PBS series Moment of Luxury, Stubbs will lend his southern charm to the "Moment of Luxury Cruise," New York to Montreal aboard the luxe Crystal Symphony just in time for the changing of the leaves.
The vessel calls in Newport, Boston Bar Harbor, Saint John, New Brunswick, Halifax and Quebec and concludes with an overnight in Montreal. Stubbs will host private events and excursions for the PBS supporters on board.
