Damaged couture handbags are turned into wonders as the beautiful models beamfor HCCC
Since its opening in 2001, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft has inspired all manner of creative thinking and that bent for the out-of-the-ordinary was on display at River Oaks Country Club during the center's annual "Crafting a Legacy" luncheon.
Silent auction chair Donae Cangelosi Chramosta contributed a number of damaged couture handbags from her Vintage Contessa shop to current and past in-residence HCCC artists for creative repurposing. The result was a most unusual and exciting silent auction of 14 items ranging from jewelry to sculpture to, well, handbags. In addition to being a great conversation starter for the 275 guests, proceeds from the auction helped enrich HCCC coffers.
Likewise, table centerpieces featured fine craft objects paired with floral arrangements. Throughout the luncheon, models wearing beautiful accessories from the HCCC Asher Gallery circulated through the ballroom.
The luncheon was chaired by Carrin Patman and Paula Arnold and honored Melanie Gray and Mark Wawro. Channel 13 KTRK news anchor Melanie Lawson served as emcee. Clint Willour, curator of the Galveston Arts Center, was guest speaker.
