Cougars and lawyers mix and mingle at River Oaks Country Club with Gatsby style
What: The University of Houston Law Center 38th annual gala.
Where: River Oaks Country Club.
The 411: Shawn and Bill Jackson, class of 1992, chaired the gala that raised close to $525,000. Assisting in the fundraising were auction chair Cynthia Mabry, class of 2010, and Judge Eric Andell, class of 1970, who ran the Big Board. "An Evening With Gatsby" was the theme of the black-tie evening and that inspired a number of guests to dress in '20s fashion.
Alumni Awards were presented to six outstanding graduates of the Law Center and to one honorary alum: U.S. District Judge David Hittner, a longtime supporter of the school and honorary alumnus; Yvonne Ho, class of 2006; Evelyn V. Keyes, class of 1987; Marvin D. Nathan, class of 1966; Sam Stubbs, class of 1977, William D. Wood, class of 1984; and David P. Young, class of 1988.
Who: Swinging to the sounds of the Richard Brown Orchestra (which included the Charleston) were UH president and chancellor Renu Khator and husband Suresh Khator, Blake and Morgan Hotzel, Tamara and Mike Woods, Melinda Stubbs, Dona and Terence Cornell, Lynne Liberato, Suzie and Alvin Zimmerman, Chad Mabry and Dean Richard Alderman.
