One-hour charity luncheon scores big, raises more than $1 million
What: The Brookwood Community benefit luncheon.
Where: Hilton Americas-Houston.
The 411: It's not often that a charity luncheon in H-Town hits the seven-figure mark but that was exactly the good news when Brookwood brought in $1,025,000. Those funds are earmarked to aid the non-profit's finances and obligations that include tuition, enterprise revenues and allocated return from its endowment. (Located in Brookshire, Brookwood is a residential facility providing vocational programs for adults with disabilities.) Applause, applause for chairs Mary and Dan McCulloch and honorary chairs Judy and Marc Herzstein and Nancy and Paul Pressler III. Their children, Hayley Herzstein and Paul Pressler, who participate in Brookwood, welcomed guests and led the invocation, respectively. Also serving as honorary chairs were Belinda and Louis Jones and Kelli and John Weinzierl.
Close to 1,000 attended and listened closely as Houstonian J. Brady Lum talked of his experiences as president and COO of Special Olympics International. Brookwood founder Yvonne Strait received a standing for her work while noting that adults with special needs is one of the fastest growing populations in the world.
Who: Melinda and Sam Stubbs, Jeanie Kilroy Wilson, Danny and Klaes, Domitille and Dr. Patrick McCulloch, Anne and Les Csorba, Kay and Howard House and Jim McIngvale.
