The best Mardi Gras party of all? It's beads, floats and music at temptingTremont House bash
"Mr. Galveston" himself, George Mitchell, and the entire Mitchell clan rolled out the purple, green and gold carpet for more than 600 revelers Saturday night for the 28th annual Tremont House Mardi Gras Ball.
There's no Galveston party like it where the cocktails begin flowing at 6, the Knights of Momus parade passes right in front of the invitation-only VIP area and the music rocks on until midnight.
"The Golden Era of Motown" was the theme of the dance-focused evening that featured the Legacy of the Temptations, presented by Legends in Concert, plus Houston dance band Eclipse and the Dr. Michael White Jazz Quartet from New Orleans.

Guests gathered early in the lobby of The Tremont House hotel for pre-parade partying. Once the floats and bands started rolling through, guests enjoyed a full hour of Mardi Gras merriment on the street. "Throw me some beads," was the constant refrain.
Then it was on to the Davidson Building right across the street, where the partying soared into high gear. The invitation called for Motown Glamour or black-tie attire and more than a few guests stepped out in Motown splendor. Among the more outrageous were Beverly Floyd in from Connecticut, Janice Hurst and Brenda Mitchell, both of Austin, and Houston's Janie DeGuerin plus Tiziana and Grant Mitchell and their two youngsters. We particularly enjoyed the Madi Gras masquerade of David Bamford and Luis Perez, who went for the authentic over Motown.
Even the grandfather of Galveston's modern Mardi Gras George Mitchell, at 92, got into the act in colorful jacket and loads of beads as did his sister Maria Ballantyne.
The partying throng included Terri and Andy DiRaddo, Emily and George Jackson, Nic Phillips, Dana and Terri Ballantyne, Kelly and Lou Zeleskey, Ann Simmons, Cara Moore, Alfredo Guitierrez and Wade Hampton.
