Iraq refugee speaks out for all humanity in Houston: And heavyweights step up for the cause

The 411: Cuban refugee and former U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Eduardo Aguirre Jr. was honored at the event chaired by BBVA Compass chairman Manolo Sánchez with Alan Crain and Charles Foster serving as honorary chairs. More than $125,000 was raised for the ministries' refugee services department, which resettles refugees from around the world. Ministries president and CEO Elliot Gershenson was presented with the FBI's Community Leadership Award by Assist. Special Agent in Charge Michael Anderson.
That award is given for individuals and organizations that make a positive impact in the community. Lisa Malosky served as emcee of the luncheon that featured Iraq refugee Asinja Badeel as guest speaker.
Who: Among the 300 guests were Lois and George Stark, Diana Untermeyer, Susan Boggio, Arthur Schechter, Sidney Faust, J. Kent Friedman, Barbara Van Postman, Gordon Quan and Bill Helms.
