    Salon Opening

This patio's the place to be at grand opening of glittery River Oaks District salon

    Jan 2, 2017 | 12:22 pm

What: Grand opening of Bella Rinova Salon.

    Where: River Oaks District.

The scoop: Lynnette Davis showcased her sparkling new salon with a party featuring singer Bubba McNeely, who entertained the crowd on a spacious 1,800-square-foot balcony patio on the second floor of the swanky shopping center amid twinkling lights.

Guests entered the salon via a private lobby downstairs and were whisked upstairs via elevator or stairs to the main space, which features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, luxurious white walls, dark tile floors, crystal chandeliers, and restrooms of Calcutta marble. A VIP room for clients who wish to remain private houses a single hair styling station with its own shampoo bowl and a remote controlled massage chair that fully extends to bed length.

The large covered patio will be used by clients to relax while their color is processing or in between services. Davis, who relocated her salon to River Oaks District after 17 years at Uptown Park, plans to also use the patio to host client events and receptions for local charities. The setting is so posh that it is rumored to be the site of a private Super Bowl party in February.

At the opening, guest sipped champagne and martinis, noshed on light bites from neighboring restaurants Taverna and Toulouse Café and Bar, and toured the 5,400-square-foot salon interior, where they were treated to mini-stylings by Bella Rinova hair stylists brow and make-up demonstrations by Edward Sanchez and his Arched Beauty Architects. Sanchez now makes the salon his home base, offering his complete line of Edward Sanchez Cosmetics as well as make-up lessons, applications, and lashes, along with a brow bar bar that offers eye brow smoothing, eye brow shaping, eye brow inking, and eye brow extensions.

Guests also shopped for jewelry at the John Hardy pop-up shop (the jeweler recently opened in River Oaks District) and purchased their favorite Kerastase products, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good, Feel Better” Program.

Who: Seen in the crowd were Jessica Rossman, Miya Shay, Dr. Roland Maldonado, Enid Sanchez, Patti and Don Murphy, Shannon Hall, Karen Miller DeGeurin and Peter Remington, Lauren Sapet Geiser, Kirk Longmire, Michael Johnson, Rachel Stockton, Monica Ibarra, Glenwood Weber, and Roz Pactor.

    Where: Julia Ideson Building

The Scoop: Houston’s literary set traded their usual reading rooms for a touch of Scottish revelry when the Houston Public Library Foundation hosted its inaugural Robert Burns’ Supper inside the historic Julia Ideson Building. The evening nodded to the legendary Scottish poet while celebrating the installation of the Houston Public Library’s first-ever Fellows.

The newly minted fellows represent a cross section of Houston’s intellectual and civic life. Honorees included Dr. Ruth Simmons, recognized as Fellow of Humanities and Letters; Dr. Peter Hotez, Fellow of The Sciences; Leigh Smith, Fellow of Arts and Culture; Laura Bellows, Fellow of Industry and Commerce; and Hon. William White, Fellow of Law and Civic Life. The program highlights individuals whose leadership reflects the library’s mission to inspire lifelong learning and strengthen the community through access to knowledge.

The evening leaned into the spirited traditions of the classic Burns’ Supper, complete with poetry, music, and celebratory toasts befitting the Scottish bard’s birthday season. Houston Poet Laureate Reyes Ramirez debuted a new work titled Ode to Houston, adding a local verse to the festivities.

The inaugural gathering served as both tribute and fundraiser for the Houston Public Library Foundation, supporting programs, literacy initiatives, and community access to educational resources across the city.
