culinary all stars unite
Houston's Top Chef stars and award-wining culinary kings team up for special Supper Club and entertainment event
A new food event will unite some of Houston’s top culinary minds with an award-winning pastry chef who’s opening a new restaurant in the city. The Nowhere Somewhere Supper Club will take place Saturday, July 15.
Described in press materials as an “intimate, one-of-a-kind supper club and entertainment experience,” Nowhere Somewhere unites three Houston chefs — Golfstrommen chef de cuisine Biggie Cruz, James Beard Award and Top Chef winner Paul Qui (Golfstrommen, Soy Pinoy, East Side King, etc.), and James Beard Award semifinalist and Top Chef finalist Dawn Burrell (Late August) — with Luis Robledo Richards, named by the World’s 50 Best organization as the Best Pastry Chef in Latin America and the nephew of Picos owner Arnaldo Richards. Together they’ll create a five-course meal with an entree and dessert by Robledo.
In addition, James Beard Award winner Alba Huerta (Julep) will serve a welcome cocktail and advanced sommelier Ryan Cooper, who worked at bars and restaurants such as Camerata and Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse before starting the wine education company Everywine, will select the wine pairings. (Update 6/29: A representative for Julep tells CultureMap that Huerta is no longer participating in the event. Sarah Troxell (Underbelly Hospitality) will create cocktails for the evening.)
Throughout the evening, Troy Curtis Entertainment will provide musical and dance performances that will be “a mash-up of electro swing with timeless classics.”
Beyond being an evening of tasty food and drinks prepared by some seriously talented people, the event serves two purposes. First, it previews Bazaar, an updated take on the Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair that will be curated by real estate development firm Rebees. It’s scheduled to take place April 21, 2024 in Sugar Land Town Square.
Second, it serves as a preview for Mayahuel, the Mexico City-inspired cantina and cocktail bar that Robledo will open in the Autry Park mixed-use development on Allen Pkwy near Shepherd Dr. Details on the restaurant are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
Tickets, priced at $150, are on sale now. The one-night-only event will be held in Sugar Land, although an exact location won’t be revealed until the day before the event. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Friends of the James Beard Foundation.
