Hijinks at Highland Village Farmers Market: An Urban Harvest takeover in theworks
Urban Harvest, which has expanded this year from its Eastside Street location to rescuing the Discovery Green farmers market and launching a much-lauded City Hall edition, has its eyes set on Highland Village. A source tells CultureMap that Urban Harvest is taking over the market as of the second Sunday of January. Under the new setup, the Eastside market will operate on Saturday mornings, and the Highland Village market will be open only on Sundays.
"It's still in the works," Urban Harvest's Callie Hastings confirms. "We hope to do it, but we're not 100-percent sure from them. They're working out some kinks in a contract for us to look at."
She adds, "We're hopeful. We'd love to manage another farmers market."
The market's current manager Micky Morales and Urban Harvest executive director Mark Bowen have yet to confirm any details.
