Pour some out for another dearly departed wine retailer, bar and restaurant.
Eater reports that Block 7 Wine Company, the hybrid wine-centric concept located on Shepherd just south of Washington Avenue, closed this week despite briefly bringing in Jason Gould to consult on the menu and being named to OpenTable's list of the 100 most notable wine lists in the country just two weeks ago.
Block 7 opened in 2009 in a former appliance warehouse, early enough for The New York Times to describe its block near Washington as "rough-and-tumble."
Following the demise of Corkscrew in 2010 (now relaunched on 20th Street in the Heights) and the closure of Cova Wines earlier this year, the wine scene on Washington has recently taken a hit, although oenophiles still have Max's Wine Dive, the solid wine list at Coppa and Absolve Wine Lounge to keep them happy.
