Best seafood restaurants cred: National mag puts Houston spot up there with LeBernardin
A national publication has named Houston's Reef as one of the best seafood restaurants in the country.
If reading that gives you a feeling of déjà vu, don't worry. Reef was singled out by USA Today as one of the best 13 seafood restaurants just a couple weeks ago, but this time it's Travel + Leisure giving Bryan Caswell cred for creating one of the most interesting and vibrant seafood restaurants around.
The list of exactly 31 restaurants includes everything from three-Michelin-starred Le Bernardin in New York to Hogfish Bar & Grill in the Florida Keys, described as "tucked between a trailer park and the shrimp docks."
Travel + Leisure gives Caswell props for both showcasing Gulf fish like wahoo and sheepshead and for paying homage to Houston's diverse culinary scene with Asian and traditional Southern flavors and ingredients.
The only other Texas restaurants that made Travel + Leisure's list are Austin's Uchi and Uchiko, listed jointly and singled out for their outstanding omakase service, recognition that should extend to Uchi Houston as well.
