Masked wrestlers turned foodies: Superheroes for a new age emerge in Houston
The "snack trio" isn't a popular fried appetizer combo at your local comfort foods eatery — we are thinking southern-style chicken tenders, pickles and taquitos. Rather, it's a fearless threesome that is roused to save Houston from its hunger woes.
Leave it to Stephanie Saint Sanchez and her La Chicana Laundry Pictures films to conceive such a coterie, one whose mission is to scrutinize local refresquerias, tasting and judge snow cones, nachos and the notorious, and traditional, corn on the cup.
Tio Nacho (Camilo Gonzalez) comes from a line of infamous masked wrestlers who also pose as foodies. Elota "The Goddess of Corn" (Joyce Day), whose prowess is said to have surfaced from a freak mishap when a bolt of lightening struck her roasted ear of corn, doesn't mess around. And then there's Raspatina (Jeanie Low), a snow cone heroine by day, action reporter after hours.
Yet don't let their riotous attire fool you. They are earnest about the texture of ice, the crunch of chips and the provenance of the corn. Nothing canned, please!
