Gulf coast FTW: National mag names Houston spot one of the 13 best seafoodrestaurants in U.S.
Between stints in New York, Hong Kong, the Bahamas and Barcelona, Bryan Caswell has never cooked far from the ocean.
U.S. News and World Report attributes the variety at Reef to those far-flung experiences, naming the restaurant to its list of America's Best Seafood.
(We in Houston know that Caswell's occasional homage to tastes like Vietnamese cuisine is more about his hometown inspiration than his global travels, but that's OK.)
Reef was one of 13 restaurants named to the list, and it's one of only two in the Gulf Coast region, along with New Orleans' Acme Oyster House.
U.S. News and World Report names the steamed mussels, Shiner Bock and toasted ancho plate as Reef's best dish, along with the crispy-skin snapper and roasted grouper. You know, Texas stuff.
