Schiller Del Grande doubles up at West Ave with Ava and Pizzeria Alto
With a new concept, Zaika, from Indika owner Anita Jaisinghani, and the second Eddie V's in Houston heading to West Ave, the multi-use megacomplex was already shaping up to be a foodie destination.
But now Schiller Del Grande Restaurant Group, the people behind RDG + Bar Annie, The Grove and the legendary Cafe Annie, have doubled down at West Ave, planning not one but two new concepts set to open in December.
On the ground level near the corner of Kirby and Westheimer, Ava will have a casual feel, with a Mediterranean-American menu, a long European-style bar across the back of the 6,400-square-foot restaurant and a patio facing Kirby.
"We were offered this opportunity even before we opened RDG, and we wanted it to be different, not to overlap too much, so it will be very casual, a place people will feel comfortable in shorts or in a jacket, with Mediterranean and American favorites — pasta, seafood and burgers," Schiller Del Grande CEO Lonnie Schiller says.
Directly upstairs, Pizzeria Alto will serve traditional and gourmet pizzas, pastas, late-night bites and cocktails in a 4,800-square-foot space from a completely separate kitchen.
Design details are still in the works, but under consideration are an upstairs patio and a separate entrance exclusively for West Ave residents.
Managing both concepts will be Schiller Del Grande operating partner Susan Bennett and The Grove beverage director Rawad Semaan.
