Free food alert: The Camarena taco truck offering Hugo's & more for nothing —for a whole month
With my Cinco de Mayo shenanigans safely behind me, when I hear about a tequila taco truck hitting Houston, it gets my full attention.
Unfortunately, the Camarena Tequila truck won't be handing out shots of blue agave silver or reposado during its stint in Houston, which starts on Thursday. (Thanks, TABC!)
Instead Camarena has partnered with Hugo's chef Ruben Ortega to create a Mexico City-style menu of tequila-infused tacos, and for the next month they'll be traveling across the city handing them out for free.
Goodies include plantain empanadas with chorizo, smoked chicken taquitos, tequila-and-citrus braised pork tacos and a south-of-the-border version of bananas foster, crepes stuffed with dulce de leche, sauteed bananas and flamed with Camarena Silver Tequila.
Did we mention it's all 100 percent free? Yeah, we like the sound of that too.
This week fans and frugal foodies can find the Camarena Taco Truck Thursday at Memorial Park for the Battle of the Media Stars in the afternoon, and later at Main Street's Ensemble Theatre. Friday night it will be at the Art Car Ball at The Orange Show, Saturday afternoon the truck will hit the Montrose Art Society event at Winter Street Studios and Saturday night it will be serving at the Tex Hex Pop-Up Cinema at 1011 Wood Street.
