Veteran Houston restaurant owner teams up with opera singer on new wine & beer playground
Paul Petronella has a full plate between running a restaurant, industry organizing with OKRA and recently launching PaulFEEDS — and now the young Houston restaurateur is set to open a wine and beer bar.
Petronella's announced a partnership with David Keck, a certified advanced sommelier and a classically-trained opera singer, on the endeavor, which will be called Camerata at Paulie's — an extension of Petronella's namesake Italian restaurant on Lower Westheimer.
Keck, the former beverage director for Uchi Restaurant Group, wants this "wine and beer playground" to provide "an unpretentious meeting place where guests can enjoy delicious beverages that are made by people not companies, and speak of the place where they are grown, harvested, fermented and bottled."
Although Camerata will not offer a full food menu — that's reserved for next door — patrons can enjoy fine Charcuterie and cheese options with their beverages.
The 1,500-square-foot space next to Paulie's Restaurant at 1834 Westheimer will be designed by Gin Braverman (whose local credentials include Oxheart), and is expected to open in July.
