Bronx Bar Shutters
Rice Village nightclub shutters after 18 years
A Houston nightlife institution is calling it quits after 18 years. Rice Village staple Bronx Bar announced on Facebook that it will close after service on Saturday.
Known for its upscale atmosphere and sprawling patio, Bronx Bar has been the scene of many good times for Rice Village residents and generations of Rice students. CultureMap has contacted Bronx Bar for more information about the decision to close and will update this article if they respond.
The closing comes at a time of change both for Houston's nightlife scene and in Rice Village. As new spots like Clé, VrSI, and Concrete Cowboy have made a splash, staples like Hughes Hangar have shuttered. Although the Bronx Bar space isn't controlled by Trademark Property Company, that company has been making changes to Rice Village that include the decision not to renew the leases of longtime tenants like Baker St. Pub and sushi restaurant Kubo's in order to bring in new options like Shake Shack.
