Young Professionals heat things up at Casa de Esperanza Chili Cook-off
What: The Young Professionals of Casa de Esperanza de los Ninos Chili Cook-off.
Where: Kirby Ice House.
The scoop: Things heated up quickly at the seventh annual Casa de Esperanza young professionals chili cook-off as 40 teams battled it out for first place.
Staying cool, a crowd of 500 guests sipped ice-cold beers and cocktails on the patio at Kirby Ice House as they sampled the fare while a panel of judges, including CultureMap's Marcy de Luna, KPRC channel 2 reporter Cathy Hernandez, Felice Sloan of Urban Swank, and PaperCity's Jailyn Marcel, rated the submissions based on taste and presentation. In the end there can only be one winner, and that title was awarded to team "Other Mothers Brothers," with Cody Cole, Jason Kirker, Kyle Morrison, Roger Rule, Sasa Hadzic, and Scott Rule.
Chaired by Katie and Patrick Morris, along with Lauren and Trent Sims, the cook-off raised $70,000 for Casa de Esperanza de los Ninos, a safe place for children in crisis due to abuse, neglect or the effects of HIV.
Who: Enjoying the fun were Katie and Mitchell Currie, Brad Dinerstein, Jaclyn Martin, Blake Aston, Melanie Chin, Mary Katherine, Chris George, Ally Hatz, Bruce and Minette Kish, Christina Mullin, Kim and Derek Myers, Lindsey and Richard Strattan, and Nealy Stuckey.
