Affordable wine wows: Philippe's Treviño Boyd earns top sommelier nod fromnational magazine
What Houston sommelier has assembled the most value-driven wine list in town? According to Food & Wine magazine, it's Vanessa Treviño Boyd of Philippe Restaurant + Lounge, whom the magazine named one of seven top sommeliers for 2012.
Treviño Boyd moved to Houston from New York to work at Philippe. At the restaurant's opening, Treviño Boyd told CultureMap that affordability was important to her in designing the wine list, which favors French and California wines and features a large selection of bottles between $35 and $50.
"We wanted people to feel comfortable ordering a second bottle and not feel that sticker shock that comes when the first bottle is $60," Treviño Boyd said.
Food & Wine describes her "expertly curated" wine list as offering "value at every price," and Treviño Boyd mentions her love for Champagne, spicy reds and Burgundy from Chambolle-Musigny, her favorite village.
