Popular Houston spot is named to elite list of the nation's best wine bars
It’s cheers all around for Houston's 13 Celsius. The European wine bar and cafe has been named among the best wine bars in the U.S. by Food & Wine Magazine.
Housed in a 1920s-era Mediterranean-style building in Midtown, 13 Celsius is the only Houston spot to make the elite list. The national publication gave it high praise for its standout offerings, including a wide-ranging roster of over 300 global wines, a delectable cheese and charcuterie menu, and the bar's use of a Coravin preservation system, which allows for pours of top wines by the glass without pulling the cork.
13 Celsius, named for the optimal temperature at which wine should be served, opened its doors 10 years ago. “It’s pretty unbelievable that by just following our heart and our passion, we were recognized at this level,” general partner and co-founder Ian Rosenberg said in a press release. “We are incredibly honored and humbled. To our customers, thank you all for the wonderful words and support.”
Austin wine bar Winebelly also made Food & Wine's list of the best 19 wine bars from across the nation, all chosen for providing outstanding atmosphere and experience, as well as a well-curated wine menu with a distinct point of view.
Winebelly was selected for its sophistication and wide-ranging list, with around 40 wines by the glass and another 150 by the bottle from big-name wineries and smaller boutique labels. "It also spans Old World and New, with no price straying over $99…not even Napa Cabs or genuine Champagnes," says Food & Wine.
