Halal Guys Arrive
High-profile international restaurant chain joins rush to Houston, sets opening date

If one of the unofficial themes of Houston restaurants in 2016 is the arrival of high-profile restaurants from other cities like Hopdoddy (from Austin), Shake Shack (from New York) and Yauatcha (from London), then the year is getting off to a fast start. The Halal Guys, one of the most eagerly anticipated newcomers, announced on Sunday that it will open January 30.
Begun as a food cart in 1990 to appeal to Muslim cab drivers in New York, the restaurant has blossomed into a phenomenon that's in the process of opening 200 locations around the world. The restaurant's white sauce is an object of cult obsession that's given it a crossover appeal far beyond those who follow its namesake Muslim dietary code.
Want to get the first taste? UberEATS will serve the restaurant's chicken and beef gyro rice platter this week. Those who aren't in the delivery area will just have to line up January 30 to taste what all the hype is about.
