Hotel Opening Delayed
Super sad: Downtown luxury hotel won't be open in time for Super Bowl
The Hotel Alessandra, currently under construction at GreenStreet in downtown Houston, won't be open in time for the Super Bowl in February 2017, officials announced on Thursday.
Heavy rains, a hotel redesign and delays in demolition work have pushed the timetable for the opening of the 20-story luxury hotel, which is being developed by Houston-based Midway Cos. The Valencia Group, which operates the Hotel Sorella in west Houston, will run the Alessandra when it opens.
It is now scheduled to open in mid 2017.
"While we would have liked to have been open for Super Bowl, Midway and Valencia Group’s first commitment is to quality and delivering an exceptional customer experience," Midway Cos. vice president Ann Taylor told the Houston Business Journal. "The project was not immune to weather-related work disruptions that affected our area and, in addition to some logistical challenges, an expedited schedule would have driven costs to an unacceptable level."
Other new downtown hotels, including the mammoth Marriott Marquis, are scheduled to open this fall.
