The recent runway show featuring modern looks with Habsburg inspiration at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston promised to draw a fashion-savvy crowd, so Heather Petrey was determined to stand out. Petrey, a fashion blogger and founder of LAFashionSnob, chose a pink vintage '60s ruffled gown, which she accessorized only with a vintage gold clutch from a family friend.

"I was trying on accessories before heading out; however nothing seemed 'right.' So I just went with the "less is more" motto and it ended up turning out well," she recalled by email.

When asked to define style, Petrey refers to her icon Zoe, who say, "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak."

A fan of vintage clothing, she had wandered into Replay, a popular vintage store on 19th street in the Heights, one day and saw the pink dress hanging on the wall. "It 'called to me' so to speak," she said. "I hadn't worn that particular dress yet and since it seemed like a glamorous affair at the museum, I thought, why not?"

Petrey describes her style as "vintage with flair."

"I love thrifting and shopping at vintage stores in search of that perfect piece. I do have some modern basics, but I wholeheartedly enjoy wearing statement pieces, usually when I'm out-and-about. I love standing out because well, life is short, so why not?"

Petrey says she doesn't necessarily follow trends. "However I do love mixing patterns, prints and textures. I also like finding unique items to wear, such as my current obsession — oversize tassels (from curtains, etc). I've also created my own headwear and jewelry on the whim, for an event usually. My style icons are Rachel Zoe, Iris Apfel and the gals on Advanced Style."

Petrey started her blog in November 2008 after she went to an event in Los Angeles. "While there, I really enjoyed speaking with the local vendors and such, so I thought I'd start a blog covering fashion events. Then it evolved into doing lifestyle, my style, product reviews, etc. Not only do I enjoy writing, but the experiences I've been able to have and the people I've met doing this, are just amazing," she says.

When asked to define style, Petrey refers to her icon Zoe, who say, "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak."

"I 100 percent agree. I believe that if you are wearing something you really love to an event or whatnot, it'll shine through your confidence," Petrey says. "Style is not following the masses and creating your own unique persona — through clothing."
