A&M faux gunman, Project Runway surprise & Piola pizza are CultureMap hot topics
- Fortunately, the sighting of a Texas A&M student with an assault rifle turnedout to be false alarm
- "Project Runway"'s Mondo Guerra was the shocking runner-up
- The new pizza restaurant Piola draws some pro's and con's
- Good news: H&M is coming to Texas. Bad news: Dallas is the site.
Project Runway's controversial finale really ticked off CultureMap readers. In one of the most commented-upon stories in CultureMap's history (today is our first anniversary!), readers socked it to Michael Kors and Nina Garcia for picking "Granola Gretchen" Jones over overwhelming favorite, Mondo Guerra.
Readers were also intrigued by our story on the reality show's "dirty little secret" — although PR makes a big deal about allowing three finalists to show their collections at Mercedest-Benz Fashion Week, they actually let 10 of this year's contestants participate. (They filmed all of them but only broadcast the top three.)
Sarah Rufca's first look at Piola, the new Midtown pizza restaurant, also riled up readers. Sarah caught some flack because she wasn't impressed.
"It seems to me that Sarah is trying to protect the interests of established "fake authentic Italian" restaurant(s) by discrediting the only Italian pizzeria we have in Houston at the moment," one reader complained.
But another reader took her side, "All, please give Sarah a break! I can't help but agree with her. In theory, Piola would be an excellent addition to Houston - as there are no decent Italian pizza places - but in practice, they still need some work. Piola, you need to get an Italian pizzaiolo! You're close but not there just yet."
All the discussion makes me curious. I can't wait to make a visit.
