Failing at marriage, not golf
Free to dominate: With Tiger Woods & Elin's divorce finally official, expect hisgame to return
The divorce Tiger Woods never wanted to happen is now official. It's back to being Elin Nordegren for the love of Tiger's life so far (and I really do believe he loved her in his narcissistic, the world-bows-to Tiger way.)
Bay County Circuit Court in the Florida Panhandle was the site of the court filing and the only terms that were released are that Tiger and Elin will "share parenting" of their kids — 3-year-old daughter Sam and 19-month-old son Charlie. With today's almost quiet news — at least by the scale of the Tiger Woods' cheating, sexting and wild driveway ride scandal — the path for the still No. 1 golfer in the world is clear.
He goes back to only really caring about golf again, something his too-quick Masters return (one that hurt his chances of getting back with Elin) indicated he never completely shook anyways.
Now that Woods is free from pretending that he put anything above golf — he was raised to do one thing under his dad's successful program and it wasn't to be a good husband — some of the pressure comes off.
Tiger couldn't save his marriage. But he will save his golf game.
This idea that Woods will never recover from his fall from false grace is laughable. It wouldn't even be that surprising to see a new Tiger (which would require only minor tweaking) in the first FedEx Cup tournament of the year, which starts Thursday. And any idea that he's done dominating will be gone by next year.
The mystery of this couple is how the ultra-private Elin will respond to walking away from the celebrity marriage she never really craved with mega millions.
