Hard up tight end: Jeremy Shockey trolls for Internet love
Jeremy Shockey's Web site background music is Pearl Jam's "Jeremy." On the site, you can buy camo-chic T-shirts with the slogan, "Shocking the World." The same guy's Twitter page is a collage of his own mug and various shirtless poses showcasing his massive tattoo of a bald eagle and American flag.
Obviously, the man loves America.
And now Shockey, the tight end for the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints, is conducting a contest via Facebook to secure himself a date this offseason. No, it's not for charity. It's just for Shockey.
On April 9 the footballer posted: Ok LADIES heres the contest. Post a video on the "just fans" section of my fbk fan page explaining why u deserve to have me take u on a date 1 nite this offseason... Contest ends sun night 4/18 at 8pm est... Lets have fun w this so be creative but just be careful its not too inappropriate where fbk deletes it!! good luck!!!"
Guess fan comments like, "Are you that desperate for a date?" must've stung a little, because Shockey backtracked three days later with this post: "Clarification on the contest cuz peop are misinterpreting.. its just DINNER w me rather than a date.. im not lookin for love on the internet like some people r trying to say!! i asked for ideas for contests and a lot of u suggested this so just wanna give fans what they want which is chance to get to meet me."
How gallant. We hope it's sincere, because so far Shockey's selection is limited. There are less than 20 fan videos posted now, none as inappropriate as Shockey may have been hoping.
Many of them star moms and their kids — maybe a romantic outing to Chuck. E. Cheese?
